Fyodor Pavlov spent five years researching the history and traditional imagery of each card before creating his own versions in ink and watercolor. The work is deeply personal, informed by his queer and trans experiences, but it opens into something much wider, touching the universal patterns and archetypal forces that shape the stories we all live within. The deck comes in a two-piece box with gold foil stamping, 78 gilded-edge linen finish cards with color-themed suits, and a 172-page full-color hardcover book.
Fyodor Pavlov is a Russian-born, longtime New York-based artist who works primarily in watercolor and ink, with a focus on motifs drawn from history and queer sexuality. His stylistic sensibility draws heavily from the Edwardian era and Jazz Age, rendered with careful attention to period detail and a distinctly contemporary eye. His work has appeared in multiple comics anthologies including Queerotica and Dates! An Anthology of Queer Historic Fiction. He has created posters for prestigious events such as Dances of Vice and the Vienna Boylesque Festival, and has exhibited at venues including the Leslie + Lohman Prince Street Project Space in New York.
