Native American Tarot

Native American Tarot

This deck draws from Indigenous traditions across all four corners of North America, representing Eastern, Plains, Southwest, and Northwest Nations and referencing the spiritual and material culture of more than a dozen tribes including the Apache, Cherokee, Hopi, Inuit, Iroquois, Navaho, Sioux, and others. Rather than mapping European tarot images directly onto Native American subjects, the deck was designed to reflect the spirit and meaning of Native American ways of understanding the world. The Minor Arcana suits are Blades, Pipes, Vessels, and Shields, and the court cards are replaced by tribal figures whose qualities speak to four modes of personal power. The 108-page booklet includes spreads such as the Medicine Wheel and Shining Star, as well as detailed guidance for each card. The deck was designed by Magda Weck Gonzalez, known as Star-Spider Woman, and illustrated by her late husband J. A. Gonzalez.

Over de makers

Magda Weck Gonzalez, known as Star-Spider Woman, received her Shaman’s name after 22 years of study and spiritual questing, and has spent the decades since teaching and practicing across multiple traditions. She is a Metis elder who honors her Shawnee/Cherokee, Celtic, Dutch, and Romany heritage. She has been working with the energy of the moon and the liminal space between the physical and spiritual worlds since childhood, guided by Spirit allies and Totem animals. She designed the Native American Tarot in 1982 and later wrote the teaching companion Star-Spider Speaks, published in 1990. She is also a Reiki master, a minister of the First Nation Church, and offers spiritual counseling, naming ceremonies, marriages, rites of passage, and death rites.
