The Weiser Tarot takes the original 1909 Waite-Smith deck as its foundation and gives it a treatment that makes the cards feel genuinely new without losing what made them work in the first place. Pamela Colman Smith's line drawings remain intact, but each suit has been given a distinct watercolor color theme that brings out patterns between cards in ways the original coloring did not. There is also something especially satisfying about seeing Smith's imagery rendered in these softer, more contemplative tones, which make the deck as well suited to meditation as to active reading.
Weiser has also added Hebrew letters and astrological correspondences to the Major Arcana, a useful addition for readers with an interest in Qabalistic or astrological frameworks. The guidebook covers the history of the Waite-Smith deck, the story behind this edition specifically, card keywords, several spreads including a new Ankh spread, and an annotated reading list for further study.
