The Sola Busca is one of the oldest known tarot decks, created in the fifteenth century for an Italian noble family and remarkable for being the first deck to use fully illustrated scenes for every card, including the Minor Arcana. Pamela Colman Smith is known to have visited these cards at the British Museum while developing her own Rider-Waite-Smith imagery, making the Sola Busca a direct ancestor of the modern tarot tradition. The Major Arcana here follow a different path than the familiar Fool’s Journey, featuring figures from Roman history and Greek and Roman mythology. This deluxe kit was prepared with the help of Sola Busca expert Paola Gnaccolini, whose guidebook provides historical context, card meanings, and spread ideas.
